Chapter Fifteen

LUELLA

Looking around the house, trying not to run to the kitchen to eat the dinner that I made, I wonder if August will be back tonight or not? Then, I wonder who the fuck has been watching me, because I still feel it.

Although, at this point, I’m past being unnerved about the whole thing and I’ve moved on to just being annoyed by it all.

When I hear the engine roar of the motorcycle, I let out a sigh and look over to Magnolia, who is playing quietly on the floor with her mega blocks. She loves them. I think she would play with them all day long if I let her.

When the door swings open, I look over to see August standing there. He grins, his eyes finding mine, then they flick over to Magnolia and his grin softens into a smile.

“How you girls been today?” he asks as he shuts the door behind him.

He doesn’t lock it and it’s something that I wouldn’t have even noticed a few days ago. “My father spent the day with us,” I say.

He hums, closing the distance between us. His arm extends, and it snakes around my waist as he hauls me against his chest. Lifting my hands, I place my palms against his pecs as I look up at him. His lips are turned up into a smirk and he lowers his face, his mouth touching mine.

I feel his tongue slide across my bottom lip and I let out a whimper, my thighs trembling as I silently beg for more from him. He lifts his head, then turns to face the kitchen before his head swings around and his eyes find mine.

“What’s for dinner?” he asks.

“I’m starting to run a bit low,” I say, not really meaning it as a critique, but more like a fact. “I made some beef, broccoli, and rice.”

“Smells fucking fantastic. We’ll go to the store tomorrow after work. I don’t plan on being late.”

Nodding, I take a step backward and head toward Magnolia to pick her up and take her to the table. I don’t get far. August reaches out, wrapping his hand around my wrist, and tugs me back against him.

“August?” I ask.

He watches me for a moment, his eyes focused on mine. He tilts his head to the side and I hold my breath, waiting for what he’s going to say or do next. It’s right there, working behind his eyes, but then he shakes his head and it’s gone.

“Let’s eat. I’m starved.”

We all make our way to the dinner table. Once Magnolia is all set up in her chair, I bring the food in, already plated. “Do you want a beer?” I ask, after noticing he has quite a few in the back of the fridge.

He stabs a piece of meat with his fork as he looks up. “Maybe later. I’m good, sugar. Sit down.”

Nodding, I sit down across from him and I wonder if this will ever not feel comfortable. We’re strangers and yet, this feels so right.
